Cathal Carolan is an Irish photographer whose work explores the relationship between people and place. His photography is shaped by candid observation, graphic composition, and a considered use of light and form. Drawn to quiet moments and the subtleties of everyday life, his images explore how people move through and shape the spaces around them.

His photography has been exhibited internationally in Europe and Japan. During several years living in Japan, Cathal photographed extensively throughout the country, with his work featured in exhibitions in Tokyo alongside some of the city’s most established street photographers.

Since returning to Ireland in 2024, Cathal has continued to exhibit and publish his work through galleries, publications, and cultural institutions. Recent highlights include Culture Night as part of Drogheda’s Night Moves programme, a major solo exhibition at The Kiosk (Droichead Arts Centre), and selection for the 195th Annual Exhibition at the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin, where his work was named by The Irish Times as one of “12 must-see artworks” from the show.

His project documenting rural Irish skateboarding was featured on the front cover of Goblin magazine’s latest issue, Róidín, and later became part of a group exhibition at the National Museum of Ireland in 2026.
